links     artists     contact     home     Dhalaï-K Competent outfit from Benin that first started in 1998 and whose debut release "Le premier cri" (the frist cry) consisted of nine tracks recorded at Oscar Kidjo's Studi Ziiny. The four-piece outfit is trying to create a new way forward for rap and Hip-Hop in Benin. According to Mediaspora.net, Dhalaï-K is a contraction of two words: Dah, meaning king or leader in Fon, and Malaïka, angel in Swahili. So the result could be translated as "archangel". A new album is planned for 2004.
