links     artists     contact     home     Shaka Babs Ibrahima Keita, alias Shaka Babs, is a young rapper from the Fass neighbourhood of Dakar. He has been active on the Senegalese hip-hop scene for almost 15 years already. Before kicking off his solo career, he was a member and choreographer with Pee Froiss, one of the foremost groups on the African rap scene. Hailed as a spokesman for Dakar’s youth, his lyrics reflect African society and the daily problems faced by the young of Senegal. After the release of his solo album “Tipona” in April 2002 (with Pee Froiss and Alif), Shaka Babs was crowned “Revelation 2002” at the Senegal Hip-Hop Awards. His latest release, “Jayyk Prekk” (Cola Production/Africa Fête), is at the crossroads of African cultures (Mandingo, Joola, Serère, Wolof and Zulu) and Hip-Hop rhythms. An international tour is being planned, and the album will soon be available in Europe. Véritable porte-parole des jeunes dakarois, ses textes engagés traitent de la société africaine et du malaise quotidien que subissent les jeunes au Sénégal. Après la sortie de son album solo, “Tipona”, en avril 2002, (avec Pee Froiss, Alif), Shaka Babs a été sacré « Révélation 2002»  des Hiphop Awards au Sénégal. Son dernier album Jayyk Prekk, une production Cola Production/Africa Fête, est à la croisée des cultures africaines (mandingue, joola, serère, wolof, zulu) et des rythmes hip hop. En attendant une prochaine tournée internationale, L’album sera bientôt disponible sur le territoire européen.
