Yeleen



Yeleen means "light" in the Bambara language. The Burkina Faso group first came together in as a blend of very different styles. Mawndoé was a traditional singer griot singer with a distinctive voice. Salif is a rapper, while Smarty is a lyricist.

Together, they create music that bridges the gap between north and south, built on rich lyrics and pure African influences. The group occasionally tours in France and North America.

Yeleen signifie "lumière" en langue bambara. Le group est né en Burkina Faso de la rencontre musicale de deux univers radicalement différents. Mawndoé est griot traditionel et chanteur. Salif est un chanteur rap. Le troisième, Smarty, est parolier.

Yeleen propose un brassage de sonorités musicales du nord et du sud, une musique faite de textes profonds, de mélodies rimées avec le tout cadencé par une inspiration typiquement africaine.
